We celebrate the life of one of America’s most important leader in civil rights. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. worked to eliminate discrimination, encourage the rights of workers, and end the war in Vietnam. Dr. King was assassinated in 1968 and shortly after his death there was a movement to have his birthday a national holiday. Congress passed the bill in 1983 and the first Martin Luther King day was celebrated in 1986. It is called Dia de Martin Luther King in Spanish.
